Breigha Adeyemo, Ph.D., is a communication scholar, educator, entrepreneur, Christian writer, and speaker whose work explores how people navigate technology, power, purpose, care, and community.
Breigha earned her Ph.D. in Communication and a graduate certificate in Black Studies from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). Her academic research examines platform governance, artificial intelligence, digital racial capitalism, and the ways race and gender become embedded in digital systems. Her dissertation, System Override: A Critical Virtual Ethnography of Women of Color’s Digital Praxis in Horizon Worlds, received an Honorable Mention for the 2026 Association of Internet Researchers Dissertation Award.
Across more than six years of college teaching, Breigha has taught public speaking, interpersonal communication, foundational communication, media studies, social media, and communication technology. She is committed to helping students communicate confidently, examine media systems critically, and recognize their capacity to build more thoughtful and equitable alternatives.
Her scholarship and public commentary have appeared in academic publications and national media, including NPR, PBS, The Conversation, Feminist Media Studies, and M/C Journal. She speaks to academic and public audiences about technology, inequality, platform governance, artificial intelligence, communication, and digital culture.
Breigha is also the founder and owner of Iya Natural Skincare, a plant-based skincare company rooted in care, integrity, transparency, and respect for the earth. Building Iya Natural has given her extensive experience in product development, ecommerce, customer engagement, and values-centered entrepreneurship. The company reflects a commitment that runs throughout her work: what we create should thoughtfully and meaningfully serve others.
As a Christian writer and speaker, Breigha explores biblical purpose, spiritual formation, marriage, family, and faithful leadership. She is currently writing a book about what God must cultivate within us so that we can faithfully fulfill the assignments He has given us.
Breigha and her husband, Dickson, co-founded The Good Ground Project, which provides scholarships to students entering college. They also host Open Table Social, a gathering that creates space for honest, faith-centered conversations about relationships, marriage, and family. They are the parents of three children.
