“Character is power.”
Booker T. Washington

I am currently pursuing my PhD in Communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) with a concentration in Black Studies. I completed my BA in Communication Studies at Prairie View A&M University and earned my MA in Performance Studies at Texas A&M University.
I describe my scholarly identity as a critical race and internet scholar whose research intersects at the fields of communication, internet studies, and science and technology studies. My research broadly focuses on the dynamic relationship between race and technology, with a specific focus on how technology is and can be used for social justice. I also have research interests in content moderation on social media platforms, racialized surveillance, and the mediating role of algorithms.
I have over 7 years of experience in higher education and have previously held roles as an academic advisor, admission counselor, and instructor at public, private, 2-year, and 4-year institutions. I strongly believe that we are all blessed to be a blessing and thus have a responsibility to “pay it forward”. That’s why I am passionate about using my platform as an educator and scholar to help and inspire others.
I love spending time with my family (pictured left), strength training, reading, and trying new recipes.
